11:30 a.m.- DJ Belal 

DJ Belal is one third of the legendary Long Island hip hop group Groove B Chill. He is also one of the creators of the hit classic movie House party. Martin Lawrence played DJ Belal in the movie. His career as a DJ has spanned over 39 years. DJ Belal is known all around the country for his energetic and on point style of playing music. Open format music is DJ Belal’s staples in his sets. You will not be able to sit down at any event he plays at. 

 

1 p.m. – Opening Ceremonies

Featuring the National Anthem sung by Amanda Swickle. 

 

2-3 p.m. 39th Anniversary Oyster Eating and Shucking Contests.

Sign up for both contests is at the Rotary Information/Raffle Booth at the entrance to Theodore Roosevelt Park beginning at approximately 11 a.m.

Oyster Eating Contest rules: Maximum 12 contestants. All Contestants must be over the age of 18. Each will have a tray of (pre-shucked) 36 oysters to begin with. They will then be replenished with cups containing 12 oysters each. The original tray and empty cups will be counted to get the number of oysters consumed. The time limit is 2 minutes, 40 seconds. Contestants will be allowed to season their oysters. Sauce and lemon will be made available. 

 

Oyster Shucking Contest Rules: Maximum 10 contestants. All contestants must be over the age of 18. All contestants will be provided with gloves, apron, knives and a nametag. Contestants may use their own equipment if approved by the judges. Oysters must be completely severed from the shell, the muscles cut and oysters must be whole and not mutilated. The time limit is 4 minutes.

DID YOU KNOW?

RECORD FOR OYSTER EATING:

The Oyster Festival Record was set in 1998 by David Leonard of Central Islip with 480 oysters chugged in two minutes and five seconds.

RECORD FOR OYSTER SHUCKING:

The Oyster Festival Record is held by Rodney Dow, who beat Andy Schuller in a shuck-off in 1985. The two men had both shucked 57 oysters in the allotted time. Dow shucked another 22 oysters in 2 minutes to win the shuck-off.

 

4 p.m. The Electrix

A group of accomplished musicians, each with a lifetime of diverse experience in the music field. Together since 1995, they’re recognized as one of the leading jam bands performing classic rock of the Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers, other related genres and original compositions. The Electrix weave in and out of intense jams with an incredible amount of enthusiasm and feeling, adding their own interpretation and style. They’ve shared a stage and performed together with Levon Helm (The Band), fiddle player Vassar Clements (Old & in the Way), pedal steel guitarist Buddy Cage (The New Riders of the Purple Sage), and guitarist/vocalist Michael Falzarano

11:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. DJ Theo’s VINYL PARTY IN THE PARK

 

Pushing the boundaries of electronic dance music in clubs and on radio airwaves has been one of Theo's musical mantras.  His sets are energetic and eclectic, and encompass his vast knowledge of dance music.  While his new and creative events continue to propel his demand in venues.  He believes that thinking outside the box for venue locations is the only way this genre will survive and give access to people that cannot always travel to a major dance venue.  

 

His musical knowledge and thirst for promoting this genre led to his former hiring as seminal Music Director at Party 105 FM/NY, while his technical ability and product knowledge has led to sponsorship by Pioneer DJ. With his successful Nervous Records compilations, continued track releases, weekly radio show on WPTY-NY, Theo continues to be on the pulse.

 

4:15 p.m.- That 90’s Band

From the preschool to the playground, and anywhere in between; get ready for a rocking, shaking, giggling good time!

Newton Shows is the oldest family-owned and operated carnival company on Long Island. Since

their father bought his first Ferris wheel over 65 years ago as a fun way to make money to support

his growing family, the Newton family has been honored to serve Nassau, Suffolk, Queens and

parts of Westchester County. Over the years they have helped raise millions of dollars through their non-profit “Partners in Fun” program and have supplied unrivaled entertainment for their corporate “Partners in Fun.”

Kings Of The Coast Pirates are back from another CENTURY

Children need not be afraid as these are friendly scoundrels who will be inviting them on hunts for

buried treasure twice per day. Searches for Pirate Booty are at 12:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Conveniently located on West End Avenue across from the WestEnd Stage is a tent set up complete with changing station and stocked withsupplies. Take a moment away from the hustle and bustle to take care of your baby’s needs.

 

THE MEL WARREN ARTS & CRAFTS TENT

Start your holiday shopping early! More than 100 vendors, all showcasing handmade wares, will be housed within a huge tent along the beautiful bay. Booth fees from these vendors help support a myriad of charitable efforts by the Oyster Bay Rotary.

 

“These coveted spots are nearly sold out each year by the third week of January, with the jewelry spots filling up first,” said Mel Warren, the arts and crafts coordinator since 1996, who began his relationship with the Oyster Festival in the early ‘80s as a vendor himself, selling handmade leather crafts. (He passed away at age 93 on August 15th, 2021.)

Please be sure to visit our “Downtown USA” along Audrey Avenue. This is a great opportunity to stop by and meet many of the local non-profits and store owners that help make Oyster Bay-East Norwich so unique.

SAIL CHRISTEEN 

will sail both days departing on the hour. The first sail is at noon and the last sail is at 4:00. Each sail will be approximately 45 minutes. The cost is $20 per person.  Tickets will be available for advance purchase at www.thewaterfrontcenter.org and www.sailchristeen.org and day-of at the Waterfront Center’s Oyster Fest booth, pending availability.
